Description:
This position involves working in Labor & Delivery and Postpartum care.
The facility has 637 licensed beds and is designated as a Level 1 Trauma Center.
It is also a teaching hospital with specialized centers for chest pain and stroke.
In this unit, the nurse will care for both vaginal and C-section deliveries.
There may occasionally be overflow from hysterectomies.
The patient ratios are 1 RN to 3-4 couplets.
Certified Nursing Assistants will assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, and ambulating patients.
The nurse will have responsibilities for care coordination with interdisciplinary teams.
Nurses are required to perform IV insertion and management of central lines.
The equipment used includes EPIC for electronic medical records, Alaris for IV pumps, and Philips for patient monitoring.
Telemetry monitoring is available 24/7, along with respiratory therapy and hospitalist services.
Key duties include managing patient pain through PCA and utilizing various monitoring devices.
The unit is known for being busy but values teamwork and support among staff members.
Discharge nurses and resource teams are available for assistance.
The role requires a commitment to thorough patient assessments and care delivery.
The unit does not have an IV team but has access to a PICC team for specialized needs.
