Travel Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Night Shift Contract in Midlothian, VA

Experienced Labor & Delivery RNs can join a high-acuity maternity care team in Midlothian, Virginia, and earn an estimated $2,130–$2,250 per week on a 13-week travel nursing contract. Provide comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum, cesarean, postpartum, and neonatal care while supporting mothers, newborns, and families throughout the childbirth experience.   • Location: Midlothian, Virginia, near Richmond
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250
  • Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
  • Start Date: October 12, 2026
  • End Date: January 11, 2027
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend and Holiday Rotation: Every other weekend and major holidays required
  • Call: Up to 24 hours per 6-week period
  • Unit: 12-bed Labor & Delivery unit serving a high-acuity patient population
  • Typical Patient Ratio: 1:1–2, subject to staffing and patient acuity
  • Additional Expectations: May float within the New Life Center or to other Labor & Delivery units in the Richmond area

Labor & Delivery RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or eligibility through the Nurse Licensure Compact
  • At least 1 year of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience; 1–2 years preferred
  • Recent experience with antepartum, intrapartum, cesarean section, postpartum care, and magnesium sulfate administration
  • Hospital experience required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
  • Fetal Heart Monitoring certification preferred
  • Ability to circulate cesarean sections required; experience scrubbing or assisting with deliveries preferred
  • Competency in electronic fetal monitoring, fetal heart monitoring, cardiac monitoring, warmers, and blood glucose monitoring
  • Experience with Epic and Perinatal Centricity preferred
  • Successful completion of the required dysrhythmia examination
  • Strong communication, clinical judgment, teamwork, and patient advocacy skills
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate care for neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients as needed

Labor & Delivery Nursing Responsibilities

  • Assess, prioritize, and provide evidence-based nursing care for patients throughout the antepartum, labor, delivery, and postpartum continuum
  • Monitor and interpret fetal heart patterns and recognize changes requiring timely intervention
  • Care for the maternal-fetal dyad, including patients with high-risk pregnancies, substance use concerns, chronic conditions, and language barriers
  • Administer medications and therapies safely, including magnesium sulfate, in accordance with clinical standards and applicable regulations
  • Assist with vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections, including circulating responsibilities
  • Provide neonatal resuscitation, stabilization, transition, and newborn care within the RN scope of practice
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, anesthesia, neonatal teams, care management, and other interdisciplinary partners
  • Educate patients and families on breastfeeding, newborn care, self-care, discharge planning, and follow-up needs
  • Document assessments, interventions, responses to treatment, and patient outcomes accurately in the electronic health record
  • Promote patient safety, infection prevention, cultural responsiveness, privacy, and quality improvement
  • Maintain readiness to respond calmly and effectively to obstetrical and neonatal emergencies
