Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit (IMC/PCU/Stepdown)

Contract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Nights (12-Hour Shifts, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM) | Onsite | 36 Guaranteed Hours per Week (48-Hour Contracts Available Upon Request)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a Step Down Unit setting, managing a patient population that includes cardiac (post-cath stents/interventions, pacers), sepsis, DKA, CVA, CIWA/behavioral health, GI bleeds, and post-surgical patients.
- Initiate and titrate drips including antiarrhythmics, Heparin, and Insulin; perform telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG interpretation.
- Conduct NIHSS/neurological assessments and dysphagia screenings as required by patient condition.
- Perform post-surgical assessments and care, including management of patients with feeding tubes, CPAP, and hypothermic/bear hugger protocols.
- Float within skillset to alternate campuses with a minimum of 2 hours notice for cross-campus float; mid-shift float within the same campus may also be required.
- Participate in weekend and holiday rotation (three weekends per six-week schedule; every other holiday); may be required to precept students and new hires in this teaching environment.
Required Qualifications
- Current, active compact RN license required.
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 full year of Step Down experience.
- At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment required.
- Trauma Level II experience required.
- Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
- Recent Epic EMR experience required (checkoff class will be required upon start); must pass telemetry competency testing.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with stable home vents, PleurX or pericardial drains, lumbar drains, and VP shunts.
- Familiarity with Narcan drip management.
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills with the ability to adapt to change and work effectively within a team-oriented environment.
