Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit (Cardiac/Neuro)

Contract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Onsite | Night Shift (12-Hour Nights, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM) | 36 Guaranteed Hours per Week
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a blended Step Down/Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit (19 beds) serving a cardiac and neurological patient population
- Monitor and manage post-procedure cardiac patients including cath/stents, interventions, pacers, ICDs, and ablations, as well as STEMI/NSTEMI identification and care
- Perform strong neurological assessments including care for CVA, seizure, and potential TBI patients using NIHSS protocols
- Initiate and titrate cardiac and insulin drips (including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Insulin, and Heparin) and manage post-heart cath care with femoral and TR bands
- Interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs; travelers will be required to pass telemetry competency testing
- Float within skillset to sister campuses with a minimum of 2 hours notice; mid-shift float within the same campus is also possible
Required Qualifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse compact license required
- AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of solid Step Down experience plus at least 1 travel contract, OR 5 years of solid Step Down experience with no travel experience
- Recent Epic EMR experience required (checkoff class will be required upon start)
- Demonstrated proficiency in telemetry/12-lead EKG interpretation, drip titration, chest tube management, PIV insertion, sepsis care, and neuro assessments
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior travel nursing experience in a Step Down or PCU/IMC setting
- Experience with carotid endarterectomy, DKA management, and sepsis protocols
- Comfort with precepting nursing students and new hires in a teaching hospital environment
