Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a Progressive Care / Stepdown unit with patient ratios of 1:5–6 across a 25-bed unit
- Care for patient populations including post-TNK, orthopedic, cranio-neurosurgery, laminectomy, and polytrauma cases
- Administer and manage drips and titrations including Heparin infusions, PCAs, and 3% sodium
- Operate and monitor equipment including telemetry, chest tubes, Airvo, and lift equipment
- Float across multiple campuses as required to support staffing needs across med-surg units
- Participate in required winter holiday coverage (1–2 of 3 upcoming winter holidays) unless the unit is closed
Required Qualifications
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
- Minimum 24 months of current Stepdown, Progressive Care, or MS/Medical-Surgical experience in a hospital or medical center setting
- Neuro/neurology care experience required
- Orthopedic care experience required
- Experience with lift equipment, telemetry, chest tubes, and Airvo required
- Experience administering Heparin infusions and PCAs required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Active AHA or ARC BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
- NIHSS certification required (may be obtained during onboarding)
- Must have completed at least one travel contract within the previous 12 months — first-time travelers are not eligible
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible (verified by driver's license)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Trauma care experience highly preferred
- Experience administering 3% sodium preferred
- ACLS certification preferred
- Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months preferred
