Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Nights

Contract | Night Shift | Onsite | Expected 36–40 hours/week; overtime may be available after 40–48 hours/week depending on applicable agreement
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a 25-bed Progressive Care Unit serving a heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic patient population
- Manage RN patient ratios of 1:5–6, administering and monitoring drips including Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium (no titration required)
- Perform EKG/telemetry strip reading and interpretation and operate specialty equipment including telemetry monitors, chest tubes, and Airvo devices
- Float across multiple campuses as needed to support staffing needs
- Document and manage patient care using EPIC EMR
- Participate in expected holiday coverage, working 1–2 of the upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 24 months of recent experience in a Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care setting within a hospital or medical center
- Neurology/neurosurgery care experience required
- Orthopedic care experience required
- Drip experience required: Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium/Na
- EKG/telemetry strip reading and measuring experience required
- Active Iowa RN license or active Compact/Multistate RN license at time of submission required
- Active AHA or ARC ACLS certification required
- Active AHA or ARC BLS certification required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Must have completed at least one travel assignment within the previous 12 months (no first-time travelers)
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible (based on driver's license)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Trauma Level I experience highly preferred
- Experience with specialty equipment including telemetry, chest tubes, and Airvo highly preferred
- NIHSS certification preferred (may be obtained during onboarding)
- De-escalation certificate preferred (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA accepted)
