Job Summary
Intermediate Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN) Wausau, Wisconsin. This contract position involves working in a 36-bed Med Surg Intermediate Care (IMCU) unit with a focus on stepdown and high-acuity patients. The role requires providing specialized nursing care, managing ventilators and tracheostomy patients, and adapting to a fast-paced environment. Candidates must be resilient, able to manage change independently, and capable of completing tasks efficiently during night shifts.

Job Details

  • Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week starting 10/05/2026 and ending 01/03/2027.
  • Required Qualifications: Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), minimum of 2+ years of experience in Stepdown, Intermediate, or Progressive Care Units (PCU). ICU experience and trauma level II certification are preferred. Ventilator and trach management experience is required. At least one prior travel nursing experience is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (preferred).
  • Additional Information: The unit has 36 beds and handles patients with conditions such as sepsis, trauma alcohol detox, GI bleed, colostomy/ileostomy, chest tubes, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and stroke. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 4:1. The unit requires social candidates capable of managing tasks independently in a high-pressure environment. All inpatient units may be floated to as-needed higher acuity areas. During flu season, travelers who decline vaccination are required to wear masks at all times.
