Job Summary:
Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) Registered Nurse (RN) position located in Wausau, Wisconsin. This contract opportunity spans 13 weeks, starting in October 2026, with a focus on providing specialized care within a 36-bed Med Surg Intermediate Care unit. The RN will be responsible for managing patients with a variety of complex conditions, including sepsis, trauma, stroke, and post-operative care, utilizing their expertise in ventilator and trach management.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Rotation shift providing 12-hour day/night variable shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Wisconsin RN license, BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, minimum of 2+ years of experience in stepdown, intermediate care, or progressive care units, with ICU, trauma (Level II preferred), ventilator, and trach experience. At least one prior travel assignment is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with electronic charting preferred, specifically EPIC.
  • Float: Float to all inpatient units within the organization, typically to higher acuity units, as needed.
  • Additional Information: Candidates must demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The unit primarily cares for patients with heavy telemetry needs, including sepsis, trauma, GI bleed, chest tubes, TBI, spinal cord injuries, and stroke. Patient-to-nurse ratio is 4:1. The unit operates with a daily census that may involve low census hours; flexibility in shift hours may be required.
