Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment in a dynamic 16-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Intermediate Care (IMC) unit located in Ithaca, New York. This role offers the opportunity to provide critical care to a diverse patient population within a supportive hospital environment.

The unit maintains an average daily census of 8 patients, ensuring focused and high-quality care. As an integral member of the nursing team, you will manage patient assignments with a 1:2 ratio in the ICU and a 1:3 ratio in the IMC, delivering comprehensive bedside patient care. This position requires adaptability, including the ability to float to Medical-Surgical units during periods of low census to support overall hospital operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct, high-quality bedside patient care to critically ill and intermediate care patients.
  • Manage patient assignments effectively, adhering to established ratios of 1:2 in ICU and 1:3 in IMC.
  • Monitor, assess, and document patient conditions, vital signs, and responses to interventions.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Float to Medical-Surgical units as required to support patient care needs during low census periods in the ICU/IMC.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic health record (EHR) documentation.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Prior experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Intermediate Care (IMC) setting.
  • Proficiency with Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
