The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:2. Resource nurses are available for support. There is no phlebotomy on the unit. An IV/VAT team is available for PICC and midline placements. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. A hospitalist is in-house. Occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy services are available. Charting is completed using an electronic medical record system. Nurses may float to stepdown, stroke units, or medical-surgical units as needed. A weekend rotation is required, working every other weekend. The schedule consists of 4 days one week and 3 days the next week, which is mandatory. Requests for time off are limited to one weekend per 13-week contract, and a maximum of 7 days off must extend the contract for full weeks. Nurses are expected to work 2 to 3 major holidays during the assignment. Professionalism is a mandatory requirement. There is a strict no cell phone usage policy in patient care areas, and earbuds are prohibited. Eating at the desk is not allowed.
