The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2. There is no phlebotomy service on the unit, but an IV/VAT team is available for PICC and midline placements. A charge nurse will take a patient assignment in addition to their leadership duties. Support staff includes a respiratory therapist available 24/7 and hospitalists in-house. The charting system used is Meditech Expanse, with Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing. Travelers should expect to float to stepdown and med-surg units as needed to ensure comfortability. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation of every other weekend, working four days one week and three days the next week. Requests for time off are limited to one weekend per contract and a maximum of seven days. Working two of three major holidays is required. Professionalism is a mandatory requirement; cell phone usage in patient care areas is prohibited, earbuds cannot be worn, and eating at desks is not allowed. Scrub color is pewter, with t-shirts in gray, white, or black. Badges must be worn above the waist and visible at all times. The work culture is traveler-friendly.
