Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Position Summary
The Infusion Nurse delivers specialized nursing care to patients undergoing intravenous and injectable therapies, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic agents, blood products, and other medications. This role includes monitoring patients for reactions, ensuring safe medication administration, and providing education and support throughout the treatment process.
Essential Job Duties
- Assess patient conditions before, during, and after treatments
- Review medical histories, laboratory results, and treatment orders
- Monitor vital signs and patient responses during treatment
- Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other IV and injectable medications
- Access and manage vascular devices including ports, PICC lines, and central lines
- Follow strict protocols for safe handling of hazardous drugs
- Ensure accurate dosage calculations and infusion rates
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications such as allergic reactions or extravasation
- Provide emergency interventions when necessary
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, potential side effects, and symptom management
- Provide guidance on infection prevention and self-care during treatment
- Support patients emotionally throughout the therapy process
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals
- Communicate patient concerns or changes in condition to providers
- Document treatment administration, patient responses, and side effects in electronic medical records
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and clinic policies
- Perform other duties as requested
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
- RNs with an active Compact Licensure must obtain a Wisconsin RN license within 90 days of the start date
- Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN preferred)
- BLS certification required or to be obtained within one month of hire
- ACLS certification required or to be obtained within one year of hire
- Current ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Provider Card or to be obtained within six months of hire
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- IV therapy and vascular access management
- Chemotherapy safety and hazardous drug handling
- Patient education and emotional support
- Critical thinking with rapid response to reactions
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
