ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity for an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to provide critical care in a Level III Trauma Center. This position involves a dynamic work environment in a 20-bed Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), where you will care for a diverse adult patient population with various complex diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients in the MICU.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips to assess patient conditions.
• Collaborate with attending physicians and residents who are present in the ICU 24 hours a day.
• Float between the MICU and medical/surgical units as needed.
• Maintain patient safety and comfort during assessments and treatments.
• Document all patient interactions and care in the EMR system (EPIC).

Patient Population

The MICU serves patients with a wide range of conditions, including:

• Substance Abuse/Overdose
• Severe Psychiatric Conditions
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Sepsis
• Gastrointestinal Bleed
• Respiratory Failure
• Cardiac Arrest
• Renal Failure
• Cardiogenic Shock

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of continuous experience in an Adult ICU, preferably in a MICU.
• Telemetry competency required.
• Active RN License in Massachusetts.
• AHA BLS and ACLS certifications are required.

Work Environment

This position involves rotating shifts, including days and nights, and you may be required to work every other weekend. The RN to patient ratio in the MICU is typically 1:2 or 1:1 with high acuity patients, and 1:4 or 1:5 when floated to other medical/surgical units.
