ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in intensive care and be prepared to provide exceptional care to a diverse patient population.

Unit Overview

This is a Level III Trauma Center with a 20-bed Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). Our unit cares for a wide range of adult patients with various diagnoses, including:

• Substance Abuse/Overdose
• Severe Psychiatric Conditions
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Sepsis
• Gastrointestinal Bleed
• Respiratory Failure
• Cardiac Arrest
• Renal Failure
• Cardiogenic Shock

Our team comprises both attending physicians and residents, who are available in the ICU 24 hours a day.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care for adults in the MICU, managing complex clinical conditions.
• Monitor telemetry and read cardiac strips competently.
• Float to medical/surgical floors as required, caring for 4-5 patients.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures within the intensive care unit.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of continuous MICU experience is required.
• Telemetry competency is mandatory.
• Active RN License in Massachusetts.
• Current certifications in BLS and ACLS are required.

Work Schedule

This position requires working 36 or 48 hours per week on nights, with every other weekend scheduled. Rotating day shifts may also be required for coverage.

Patient Care Ratio

The nurse-to-patient ratio in the ICU is 1:2 or 1:1 with high acuity patients, while in floated positions, the ratio may be 1:4 or 1:5.

Technology

The electronic medical record (EMR) system used for charting is EPIC.
