ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This role involves working in a Level III Trauma Center, specifically in the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). The nurse will provide care for a diverse range of adult patients with various critical conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, making real-time adjustments as necessary.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Utilize telemetry technology to read and interpret cardiac rhythms.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including attendings and residents who are present 24/7 in the ICU.
• Float to medical/surgical units as needed, managing a patient load of up to 5 patients.

Unit Description

The ICU consists of 20 beds and provides care for critically ill patients with a wide range of diagnoses, such as substance abuse/overdose, psychiatric conditions, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeds, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, renal failure, and cardiogenic shock.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of continuous experience in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) or Adult ICU.
• Strong ability to read telemetry strips.
• Must hold an active Massachusetts RN License.
• Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are required.

Working Conditions

• Shift rotations may include a combination of day and night shifts, with a primary focus on night shifts.
• Patient-to-nurse ratios vary based on patient acuity; typically 1:2 or 1:1 in ICU, and up to 1:4 or 1:5 when floated.
• Requires the ability to float to medical/surgical units as necessary.
