Requirements

  • Unit: ICU
  • Beds: 8
  • 2 years ICU experience
  • Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Ratios: 1:1-2
  • EMR: Cerner
  • Charge Nurse: Yes, generally does not take patients but will provide break relief
  • Nurse Aides: None in ICU
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holidays: Rotate in with core staff
  • Scrub Color: Navy. Undershirts must be navy, white, or black. Scrub jackets are optional and must be navy.
  • Tele: Yes, must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
  • Vents: Yes, Galileo and G5s
  • Hospitalist/Intensivist in-house: No. Telemed robot utilized.
  • IV Team: No
  • RT: 24/7
  • Pharmacy: 24/7
  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
  • Report is conducted at the bedside
  • OT and extra shifts are available
  • Self-scheduling is used but is not finalized until the Manager balances it
  • Schedules are released 4 weeks at a time
  • Travelers can access schedules from home, make themselves "available" for extra shifts, and trade shifts with other staff
  • Block scheduling is generally not available
  • Travelers may be placed on-call if not needed in the department
  • Floating: All other Sacramento facilities
  • Floor-specific Orientation: 1-2 days on the floor with a preceptor

Common Diagnoses / Types of Patients:

  • General medical/surgical population
  • Stable CVA post TPA
  • Respiratory failure
  • Manual proning
  • COPD
  • CHF
  • DKA
  • No CABG or neurosurgery
