ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking a dedicated ICU Registered Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in critical care, with experience in various adult patient diagnoses.

Position Overview

This role involves providing high-quality care to patients in a 20-bed Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) within a Level III Trauma Center. The ICU team manages a diverse patient population, including cases related to substance abuse, severe psychiatric conditions, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, renal failure, and cardiogenic shock. The unit is staffed with attendings and residents available 24 hours a day.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care within an intensive care setting.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, including the ability to read telemetry strips.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective care plans.
• Float to Medical/Surgical units as needed, managing up to 4-5 patients.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of continuous experience in a Medical/Surgical ICU.
• Strong telemetry competency required.
• Current Massachusetts RN License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.

Shifts and Scheduling

This position requires flexibility with rotating shifts, including days, evenings, and nights, with the expectation of working every other weekend. Day rotators may be assigned shifts ranging from 7 AM to 7 PM, 11 AM to 11 PM, or night shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM based on unit needs.

Patient Care Ratio

The registered nurse will typically manage a patient load of 1:2 or 1:1 for high-acuity patients, with ratios of 1:4 or 1:5 when floated to other Med/Surg units.

Charting and Documentation

Utilize the EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) system for patient charting and documentation.
