Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week contract assignment in Watertown, New York. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures in a dynamic operating room environment.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring patient safety, maintaining sterile fields, and collaborating effectively with the surgical team to deliver high-quality patient outcomes throughout the perioperative phase.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in the operating room, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical process.
- Assess patient needs, including clinical, educational, mental, and spiritual aspects, developing and implementing individualized care plans.
- Maintain a safe and aseptic environment within the OR/ASU setting, adhering to all sterile protocols and infection control practices.
- Identify and mitigate safety risks for patients and staff, including proper assessment and implementation of patient lifting equipment.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals as part of the multidisciplinary surgical team.
- May be required to assume charge nurse duties, demonstrating leadership and delegation skills.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality patient care and assess diverse patient needs.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to function effectively in stressful situations with strong problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Previous experience in a preceptorship, charge nurse, or leadership role within an OR setting.
Skills & Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing principles and operating room procedures.
- Proficiency in interpreting lethal dysrhythmias.
- Expertise in maintaining a safe and aseptic surgical environment.
- Competence in utilizing typical clinical equipment and instrumentation found in an OR/ASU setting.
- Ability to identify and mitigate safety risks for patients and staff.
- Proficient in safe patient handling techniques, including the use of lifting equipment.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective leadership, prioritization, and delegation skills.
Shift Details
- Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
- Hours: 8-hour shifts, 5 days per week.
- Contract Length: 13 weeks.
- Assignment Dates: October 5, 2026 - January 6, 2027.
- Rotation: Weekend and holiday rotation required.
- Call Requirements: On-call duty required with a 30-minute response time.
Licensing Requirements
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
