Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
Job Summary
Join our dedicated nursing team at MVHS-Wynn, located in Utica, New York, within our 64-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), which includes 15 specialized Neuro beds. This unit provides comprehensive care for adult patients, aged 18 and above, who require close monitoring and advanced interventions for a variety of complex medical conditions.
The patient population includes individuals with neurological disorders, cardiac conditions, trauma, respiratory illnesses such as COPD, DKA, sepsis, myocardial infarction (MI), and those requiring cardiovascular step-down or post-operative care. As an IMCU Registered Nurse, you will play a crucial role in managing these diverse and challenging cases, ensuring high-quality patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct, comprehensive nursing care to adult patients in an Intermediate Care Unit setting.
- Monitor and manage patients with complex medical conditions including neurological deficits, cardiac instabilities, trauma, respiratory distress, DKA, sepsis, and post-operative recovery.
- Utilize and manage specialized equipment such as temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, arterial lines, and BiPAP machines.
- Collaborate effectively with respiratory therapists for the care of patients on chronic ventilation.
- Accurately document all patient care activities, assessments, and interventions within the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including the requirement to float to other units as needed based on facility demands.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience with the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.

Licensing Requirements
- Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.

- Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
