Job Summary
This role is for an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. The Emergency Department is a high-volume, 64-bed unit, including dedicated areas for triage, acute care, super track, trauma, clinical decision unit (CDU), and psychiatric patients.
The unit cares for a diverse patient population ranging from newborns and pediatrics to adults and geriatrics, presenting with a wide array of critical conditions such as stroke, sepsis, trauma, myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment, utilizing advanced clinical skills and critical thinking.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to a diverse population across all age groups (newborns, pediatrics, adults, geriatrics) presenting with acute and critical conditions.
- Manage patients with diagnoses including but not limited to Stroke, Sepsis, Trauma, Myocardial Infarction (MI), Cardiac Arrest, and Respiratory Failure.
- Perform comprehensive assessments, develop individualized care plans, and implement evidence-based nursing interventions.
- Administer medications, monitor patient responses, and document all care accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Float to other units as required by facility needs.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting.
- Demonstrated experience with pediatric patients within an ED setting.
- Prior travel nursing experience is required.
- Proficiency with EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a Charge Nurse role or demonstrated charge capability.

- Clinical Skills: Advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, trauma nursing, stroke assessment, sepsis management, critical care interventions, rapid assessment, triage.
- Equipment: Rapid Infusor, Arctic Sun.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in EPIC EMR.
- Soft Skills: Critical thinking, strong communication, adaptability, teamwork, crisis management, patient advocacy, ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.

Licensing Requirements
- Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification (must be in hand).
