Traveling nurses may care for trauma patients after stabilization.
Nurse-to-patient ratios vary based on acuity, typically being 1:3-5.
Nurses should be proficient in titrating a variety of drips and have skills in managing critical patients.
The Emergency Room operates with a minimum staffing of attending physicians throughout all shifts.
Charge nurses are on duty to oversee department operations, and a house supervisor is available 24/7.
ED technicians assist with patient care, operating under different ratios compared to traditional floor techs.
Nurses may work with respiratory therapy equipment but are not solely responsible for its management.
Although monitor technicians are available, nurses should be able to recognize and respond to life-threatening rhythms.
Labs are drawn by both nurses and technicians, depending on specific circumstances.
Shift scheduling is done by a manager, not self-scheduled, but time off requests are considered.
Weekend and holiday work is required based on departmental needs and can be negotiated.
Floating to assist on other units is rare and happens infrequently.
