Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse
Location: Winston-Salem North Carolina 27157
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: 12hr Night Shift - 36
Shift Information: 1900-0700
Clinical Interviewing- Yes - Manager to conduct final interview
On Call, Call Back Requirements: None
Weekend Rotation: EOW
Holiday Requirements: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
Floating Requirements: Could float to the ED Transition Care Unit
About Facility:- 885 licensed beds
- Level 1 Trauma Designation
- Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center
- Chest Pain Center
- Burn Center
- Stroke Center
Unit Information:- Beds: 55 horizontal, 6 vertical, 15 observation, 5 BH holding
- Census: Average patients/day: 200-220
Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years- Will you accept a first-time traveler: Only if they have 3 years of Level 1 trauma center experience
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:- Unit is currently under renovation – 2nd of 3 phases is complete
- Will receive many air flights in – will have 2 fixed wind helicopter pads post renovation
- Regional Trauma Center – will see all ED patients
- Travelers will not likely be utilized in Trauma bays during initial contracts
- Very fast paced unit
- Client 1,2,3,4,5 Trauma/Stroke/STEMI/Burn, including but not limited to:
- GSWs, stabbings multi trauma, MVC, MI, CVA, hypothermia, drownings, falls, conscious sedations, defibrillating, cardiac arrest/respiratory arrest, sexual assault, overdoses
- Psychosis, Pacing, Vent management, Blunt trauma
Patient Ratios:- RN: 3:1, 4:1, 5:1. 6:1 based on clinical area worked or acuity
- LPN: 4:1/5:1/6:1 based on clinical area worked or acuity
Required Licensure & Certifications:- RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC (Resource Team Requirements)
Skills required:- Discussed during interview
- As a skilled and compassionate RN, you will play a pivotal role in providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
- Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skills communication while leading efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum
Support within the Department:- ED Tech: ADLs, vital signs, I/O cath, foley placement, phlebotomy
- Unit Secretary
- Charge nurse
- 24/7 Critical Care Pharmacists
- Paramedic Staff
- Phlebotomy: N/A – ED Tech can perform phlebotomy
- IV/VAT Team: N/A
- Resource Nurse - Pod leaders
- RT 24/7
- Hospitalist 24/7
- Intensivist 24/7
- SANE Quality Coordinator
- Telemetry monitoring/no Tech
Technology/Equipment:- EMR: Epic
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Med dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitors: Phillips
- Unit specific equipment: Client Ultrasounds for point of care. Client EKG machines
