Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) for a 15-week contract covering the holiday season. This role requires a high level of proficiency in managing a diverse patient demographic, ranging from neonates to geriatrics, in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and triage, ensuring timely and accurate treatment.
  • Administer medications including barcode scanning for med administration, manage medication drips, and oversee blood product administration.
  • Assist with trauma and code cases as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Set up and monitor chest tubes and arterial lines.
  • Manage patients requiring splinting, Bipap, and ventilator support.
  • Stabilize and prepare patients for transfer to higher-level care facilities.
  • Utilize Point of Care Labs effectively.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a large volume Emergency Department (ED) with high acuity patient care.
  • Pediatric emergency medicine experience is highly preferred.
  • Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS or ENPC, & TNCC.
  • Ability to pass the hospital’s Triage Test before performing triage responsibilities.
  • Experience in managing and administering care to patients with behavioral health and substance use disorders is an advantage.

Work Environment

  • Join a Level III trauma center that sees 200 - 250 ED patients daily.
  • The ED is divided into zones, with a patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on acuity.
  • Shifts available: Days, Mids, and Nights with rotating weekends expected every other week.
  • Flexible schedule required; some back-to-back weekends may occur.

EMR and Equipment

  • Familiarity with Epic EMR is required.
  • Proficient in the use of medical equipment pertinent to emergency care.
