Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Observation Unit. This role involves providing high-quality care to adult patients in a 16-bed Observation Unit, ensuring effective assessment and management of patient needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document findings accurately.
  • Administer IV medications and perform phlebotomy as needed.
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and interpret EKGs.
  • Conduct point-of-care testing and execute splinting procedures.
  • Provide patient education and demonstrate critical thinking in clinical decision-making.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care.
  • Ensure adherence to protocols and standards of care within the Observation Unit.
  • Float to the Emergency Department Observation, Acute Medical Unit, and Emergency Department Psychiatric areas as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in one location, with at least 2 years of experience as a traveler.
  • Active Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) License required.
  • Certifications: AHA ACLS, PALS, and BLS are mandatory.

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, and nights. The clinician-to-patient ratio may vary based on unit needs, typically ranging from 4:1 to 5:1.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems, specifically Epic, ASAP, and Clin Doc, is essential for documentation and patient tracking.

Patient Population

The primary patient demographic for this position includes adults in need of observation and assessment.
