Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

This position involves working in a busy Emergency Center, providing high-quality nursing care to patients in a fast-paced environment. The role includes direct patient care, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and effective communication with patients and families.

  • Shift: Evenings
  • Shift Length: 12 hours
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Typical Shift Hours: 1:00 PM to 1:00 AM
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holidays: Every other holiday
  • Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue

Unit Information

  • Type of Unit: Emergency Room
  • Average Patients per Day: Approximately 180-200 visits
  • Staffing Ratios: 1 nurse to 4 patients
  • Behavioral Health: Includes a 6-bed behavioral lock-down area staffed by psychiatric professionals
  • Common Patient Diagnoses: Pediatric to geriatric patients, trauma (with some neuro and ortho cases) and CVA center.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing assessments and care to patients in the Emergency Center.
  • Collaborate with physicians, mid-level providers, and other team members.
  • Perform lab draws and initiate IV therapy within established protocols.
  • Manage patient care with the support of designated aides, paramedics, and security staff.
  • Complete required training and orientation during the first week of employment.
  • Participate in patient safety initiatives and adhere to facility's policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an emergency room setting, including at least 1 travel assignment.
  • Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, CPI, and NIHSS or ASLS.
  • Experience with Meditech EMR is a must.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively with patients and families.
  • Flexibility to accommodate weekend and holiday shifts as needed.

Additional Information

  • All travelers must adhere to a 75-mile radius rule, and a valid driver's license must be provided for verification.
  • Orientation consists of 2 shifts specific to the unit's protocols.
  • The emergency room has a dedicated 24/7 respiratory team and pharmacy available on campus for immediate support.
