Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse (CVICU RN)

Position Overview

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse (CVICU RN) will provide specialized care to hemodynamically stable and predictably unstable patients within a 10-bed intensive care unit. Responsibilities include delivering physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support to patients in the immediate post-operative phase of open heart recovery. Patients may present with a variety of conditions that necessitate skilled assessment and intervention.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for patients from admission to discharge, including discharge planning.
• Operate advanced medical equipment, including central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, and ventilatory support.
• Administer care for patients with conditions such as CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, and sepsis.
• Assess patient conditions and intervene as necessary to address potential deteriorating health status.
• Act as a clinical leader and assist in the precepting of staff.
• Collaborate effectively with providers, healthcare professionals, and allied health staff.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent and a degree from an accredited nursing program.
• Licensure/Certification: Current state RN licensure in Montana, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in critical care with recent open heart recovery nursing experience.
• Knowledge: Proficiency in advanced nursing principles and procedures related to critical care and cardiovascular nursing.
• Skills: Effective use of medical equipment, basic cardiac telemetry, and EKG interpretation.

Organizational Relationships

• Receives direction from: Providers, Charge Nurse, ICU Director, and CNO.
• Gives direction to: RN, LPN, CNA, housekeeping staff, and dietary staff.
• Works cooperatively with: Providers and healthcare professionals.

Shift Information

This position is for night shift. Holiday coverage is not required.
