Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse (CVICU RN)

Shift Information: Night Shift

Position Overview

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse (CVICU RN) will provide comprehensive care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients in a specialized cardiac medical surgical unit. This role involves delivering physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support to patients, including those recovering from open heart surgery and other cardiac procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care from admission to discharge across all aspects of care, including discharge planning.
• Administer care for patients with a variety of conditions including, but not limited to, pediatrics, pre and post PCI care, pacemaker management, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, sepsis, and other surgical services.
• Monitor patient status and utilize assessment and intervention tools to address potential deteriorations in condition.
• Operate advanced medical equipment, including central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, arterial lines, and ventilatory support systems.
• Collaborate effectively with providers, healthcare professionals, and allied health staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Assist in the training and precepting of new staff members.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent and a degree from an accredited nursing program.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in Critical Care, specifically with open heart recovery nursing.
• Certifications: Current State of Montana RN Licensure, along with BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
• Knowledge: Advanced nursing principles and procedures, specifically within critical care and cardiovascular intensive care.
• Skills: Proficient in the use of medical equipment, IV pumps, and the ability to interpret basic cardiac telemetry and EKG readings.

Organizational Relationships

• Receives Direction From: Providers, Charge Nurse, ICU Director, and CNO.
• Gives Direction To: LPNs, CNAs, housekeeping, and dietary staff.
• Works Cooperatively With: Providers, healthcare professionals, and allied health staff.
