CVICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced CVICU Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive care in a Post Open Heart Recovery Unit. This position involves managing critically ill patients post-operatively, including those recovering from thoracotomies, esophagogastrectomies, and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedures.

Shifts

• Shift: Days (06:45 - 19:15)
• 36 or 48 hours per week available
• Every other weekend required

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care for patients recovering from cardiac surgery.
• Monitor patient status and manage interventions for dysrhythmias, mechanical devices (IABP, ECMO), and hemodynamic stability.
• Administer medications and titrate cardiac drips per protocol.
• Conduct thorough assessments, including interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).
• Manage ventilation for critically ill patients.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams using SBAR communication methods.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of Critical Care experience required.
• Previous travelers are not eligible; local candidates accepted at the same rate.
• Must possess CVICU or open heart recovery experience.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Experience in managing and accessing ports.
• Ability to assist with chest tube insertion/removal.
• Familiarity with BiPAP/CPAP management and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC).
• Competence in ventilator management.

Patient Population

The nursing team will care for patients experiencing various diagnoses, particularly focused on post-operative recovery after cardiac surgeries and associated procedures.

Unit Details

The CVICU unit provides advanced cardiac care, including Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Impella support, and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump management. Nurses will perform assessments and manage care plans based on patient needs and recovery goals.

Orientation

• Hospital orientation will take place during the first week; travelers must be available for classes each day.
• Confirm unit-specific orientation times prior to start date.

Attire

Nurses are required to wear navy or white scrubs, or a combination of both while on duty.
