Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

This position is for an experienced Neuro ICU Registered Nurse, specializing in the care of neuroscience intensive care patients. The unit operates as a comprehensive stroke center, providing advanced care for patients with various neurological conditions.

Required Skills and Certifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role
• Experience with ICP monitoring, ventilator management, and telemetry
• Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIH
• Travelers must have prior experience; first-time travelers will not be accepted
• Local candidates are accepted

Job Details

• Staffing Ratios: 2:1; occasionally 3:1
• Contract Length: 13 weeks or longer, with an end date through 2/27
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts
• Float Requirement: Float to other ICU and intermediate units may be required
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Patient Care Focus

The unit specializes in managing patients with complex neurological conditions. Ideal candidates will have substantial experience with:

• Stroke management
• ICP management
• Seizure management
• Critical care patient management, including titration of drips and utilization of invasive equipment

Special Procedures and Equipment

• Management of external ventricular drains (EVD)
• Ventilator management
• Zoll temperature management/Arctic Sun
• Pain management through patient-controlled analgesia (PCA)

Documentation and Communication Systems

• Medication Management: Pyxis
• Documentation: EPIC
• Communication: SBAR

Additional Information

• Orientation duration is 24 hours
• Scrubs: Employees are required to wear navy blue or white scrubs (a combination of both is permitted)
• All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
