CVICU Travel Nursing Job Details
- Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Registered Nurse

- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; three 12-hour day shifts
- Shift Details: Days, every other weekend, and every other holiday
- Unit: 8-bed CVICU within a 30-bed ICU
- Typical Ratios: 1:1 for fresh post-operative patients and 1:2–3 for more stable patients, based on acuity and staffing
- Patient Population: Cardiothoracic surgical adults and geriatric patients
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
- Additional Information: Travel assignment; local candidates are not eligible
CVICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the working state or a valid compact-state license
- Minimum of 2 years of recent CVICU experience as a Registered Nurse
- Current experience recovering immediate post-operative CABG and TAVR patients
- Demonstrated experience managing Swan-Ganz catheters and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
- Recent experience caring for intubated patients receiving mechanical ventilation
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record documentation
- Successful completion of an EKG examination
- BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred at hire and required within the designated onboarding period
- Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, adaptability, and commitment to patient safety
- Ability to provide total patient care in a high-acuity cardiovascular intensive care environment and respond calmly during emergencies
- Experience with Impella, ventricular assist devices, intra-aortic balloon pumps, or CRRT is preferred
CVICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments of critically ill cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgical patients
- Develop, prioritize, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process
- Recover and manage patients following CABG, TAVR, and other complex cardiothoracic procedures
- Perform and interpret hemodynamic monitoring, including management of Swan-Ganz catheters
- Safely administer medications, titrate critical care infusions, and evaluate treatment effectiveness
- Provide critical care nursing for patients requiring ventilators, advanced respiratory modalities, and other life-support technologies
- Assist with intra-aortic balloon pump, Impella, chest tube, and transvenous or temporary pacing procedures
- Support conscious sedation procedures and maintain close monitoring throughout interventions
- Recognize and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition, including multi-system organ failure
- Coordinate care with physicians, respiratory therapists, ancillary staff, patients, and families
- Educate patients and caregivers while advocating for their preferences, safety, dignity, and quality of life
- Maintain accurate documentation in EPIC and comply with infection prevention, safety, and professional nursing practice standards
- Promote quality improvement, evidence-based practice, cultural responsiveness, and effective stewardship of clinical resources
