CVICU Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Contract in Dayton, Ohio
CVICU travel RN opportunity in Dayton, Ohio: provide advanced critical care to complex adult and geriatric cardiac patients in a Level I trauma environment. This 13-week travel nursing assignment offers experienced cardiovascular ICU nurses the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team, advanced cardiovascular technology, and high-acuity patients while enjoying Dayton’s welcoming community and aviation, arts, and cultural heritage.
Travel RN Job Details
- Location: Dayton, Ohio
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,800–$1,890
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour day shifts, approximately 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.; 3 shifts per week. A 48-hour option may also be available.
- Unit: 36-bed Level I Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) with an average daily census of approximately 33 patients
- Patient Ratio: Targeted 1:2 ratio
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients with complex cardiovascular and critical care diagnoses
- Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and holiday availability required
- Scrubs: Navy blue
- Charting: Epic
CVICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of dedicated CVICU or cardiovascular ICU experience required; 2 years preferred
- Level I trauma experience required
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license; an Ohio or compact nursing license is accepted, and other active state RN licenses may be considered for submission
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Current Epic inpatient charting experience required
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythms and telemetry
- Experience caring for post-cardiac surgery patients, including patients arriving directly from the operating room
- Experience with Impella, pulmonary artery/Swan-Ganz monitoring, thermodilution monitoring, arterial lines, ventilators, vasoactive drips, dialysis, sheaths, and arterial blood gas collection and interpretation
- Must successfully complete an online EKG and telemetry competency assessment before starting the assignment
- Travel nursing experience is preferred; first-time travel nurses are welcome
- Must be comfortable floating to medically appropriate assignments within specialty clusters or nearby affiliated facilities based on patient census and staffing needs
CVICU Travel Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill cardiac and cardiothoracic patients in a Level I CVICU
- Manage patients recovering from open-heart procedures, valve replacement or repair, aneurysm repair, and other complex cardiac interventions
- Monitor and manage ventilated patients, vasoactive and cardiac medication infusions, continuous sedation, temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
- Care for patients with STEMI/NSTEMI, heart failure, sepsis, respiratory failure, dysrhythmias, cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, ARDS, and other multisystem conditions
- Support the management of ECMO, Impella devices, continuous renal replacement therapy, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and other advanced critical care equipment as appropriate to scope and competency
- Interpret telemetry, arterial blood gases, and hemodynamic data to identify changes in patient status and escalate concerns promptly
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacy, IV teams, rehabilitation services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
- Participate in unit-based floating and provide safe, adaptable care in medically appropriate assignments when needed
- Maintain accurate Epic documentation and uphold high standards of patient safety, clinical quality, and compassionate care
