Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care in a CVICU setting with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio and an average daily census of 3–5 patients on a 6-bed unit
• Manage post-operative cardiac surgery patients including those recovering from CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR, mitral clips, and Inari procedures
• Actively manage hemodynamically unstable patients during the first 6 hours post-op, including those on two or more inotropic medications, with open chest, extreme coagulopathy, or at surgeon's discretion
• Operate and monitor advanced cardiac support devices including OHS/Impella, ECMO (with perfusionist on-site), CRRT (with dialysis on-site), and IABP
• Care for patients presenting with STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, and cardiac surgery re-admissions or ICU bounce-backs
• Float to MSICU as needed; participate in on-call coverage per rotating 6-week schedule

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required; immediate open heart post-operative experience required
• Active Maryland RN license or Compact RN license at time of submission
• BLS certification (AHA only) required
• ACLS certification (AHA only) required
• CPI certification required (The Calm Every Storm online version is the only acceptable online vendor)
• NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• Local candidates accepted; first-time travelers with qualifying CVICU and open heart post-op experience will be considered

Preferred Experience / Skills

• OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) certification preferred
• TCNN certification preferred
• Experience with ECMO, IABP, Impella, and CRRT in a high-acuity cardiac surgical environment
