Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in an 18-bed mixed-acuity CVICU unit serving both Step Down and ICU status patients at nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 for fresh hearts and devices, 1:2 for ICU status, and 1:3 for step down status
- Manage and titrate a broad range of vasoactive, antiarrhythmic, sedation, and anticoagulation drips including Cardizem, Cordarone, Epinephrine, Levophed, Vasopressin, Heparin, Propofol, and others
- Care for patients with complex cardiac and thoracic diagnoses including CABG/valve surgery, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, pulmonary embolism, heart failure, and thoracic surgical procedures
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms independently every 4 hours; address monitor alarms in coordination with off-unit monitor techs using Philips monitoring systems
- Manage mediastinal and chest tubes, arterial lines, temporary pacemakers, ventilators, and CRRT as part of routine patient care
- Float as needed, primarily to ACU and ICU; may also float to Med-Surg and Telemetry with a maximum of 6 patients
Required Qualifications
- Active RN licensure in good standing
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum experience with post-operative open heart patients greater than 6 hours post-op from the OR
- Must have experience with CRRT, temporary pacemakers, post-permanent pacemaker care, acute MI pre/post cath, mediastinal/chest tubes, ventilator management, hypothermia protocol, and arterial lines
- Must have experience titrating drips
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; all submissions must include a copy of the candidate's unexpired driver's license
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Fresh open heart experience (direct from OR)
- IABP and/or Impella experience
- Hemodynamic monitoring and Swan-Ganz catheter experience
