Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants (local rate applies for candidates within 50 miles)
Schedule: Night shift, 36 hours per week, 13-26 week assignments available. Weekend requirement: 4 shifts per 4-week period (flexible scheduling). Patient ratio typically 1:6, varies by acuity. Floating required at unit discretion.
Highlights:
- Advanced cardiac unit with comprehensive case mix including post-surgical cardiac and thoracic patients, post-catheterization care, and complex dysrhythmia management
- Experience with advanced cardiac procedures including CABG, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman), and electrophysiology procedures
- Epic electronic medical record system with 24 hours of unit orientation provided
- Hands-on experience with sheath removal, cardiac drip titration, chest tube management, and non-invasive airway support
- Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including respiratory therapy, rapid response teams, and pharmacy services
- Must be available to work during emergency response situations including storm teams and disaster response as assigned
Requirements:
- Active RN license (North Carolina or Compact state license accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of cardiac floor experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required unless candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Must successfully pass EKG testing prior to start date
- Proficiency in cardiac telemetry, stepdown/PCU care, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Experience with sheath removal, cardiac drip management and titration, chest tubes, and non-invasive airway management required
- Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
- Completion of pre-start online modules (approximately 8-10 hours) required before first shift
Preferred Qualifications:
- Arterial line management experience
- Wound care and wound vac experience
- Previous charge nurse experience
- Epic charting system experience
Patient Population & Diagnoses:
- Adult and geriatric patients with cardiac conditions including atrial fibrillation, CHF, acute coronary syndrome, CAD, valvular disorders, cardiomyopathy, and vascular diseases
- Post-operative cardiac and thoracic surgical patients including CABG, valve replacements, carotid endarterectomy, and vascular surgeries
- Post-procedural patients following cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology procedures, and pacemaker placements
Important Details:
- Contract staff will be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
- Up to 7 days of pre-approved time off allowed (no holidays); must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- No additional time off requests permitted after contract signing
