Cardiac Stepdown Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Contract in Middletown, Ohio

Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Contract Duration: 13-week travel nursing contract
  • Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
  • Schedule: Three or four 12-hour shifts per week; approximately 36 hours per week
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 5 patients to 1 nurse
  • Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and holiday availability required

Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

  • At least 1 year of recent acute-care Registered Nurse experience; cardiac stepdown, progressive care, PCU, or telemetry nursing experience strongly preferred
  • Active Ohio RN license or compact RN license required before the assignment begins
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Recent experience using Epic inpatient electronic medical records
  • Strong cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
  • Successful completion of an online EKG and dysrhythmia competency assessment before starting the assignment
  • Ability to complete required laboratory work and the EKG/dysrhythmia assessment within 72 hours of contract signing
  • Comfort floating to medically appropriate units or nearby locations based on patient census and clinical needs
  • Ability to work every other weekend and holiday as scheduled
  • Applicants residing within the applicable 50-mile local travel radius are not eligible for this travel assignment

Cardiac Progressive Care RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for adult and geriatric patients requiring progressive care and continuous cardiac telemetry monitoring
  • Monitor and interpret telemetry rhythms, recognize changes in patient condition, and initiate appropriate nursing interventions
  • Care for patients with myocardial infarction, post-cardiac catheterization or stent placement, heart failure, COPD, stroke, TIA, seizures, renal failure, trauma, overdose, and post-surgical conditions
  • Manage cardiac and insulin protocols, cardiac drips as permitted, oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, and other progressive care treatments
  • Perform or assist with central line, PICC, port, peripheral IV, chest tube, surgical drain, feeding tube, tracheostomy, wound, and wound-vac care
  • Provide care for patients receiving peritoneal dialysis, post-cardiac procedures, pacemaker care, electrophysiology studies, and cardiac ablation procedures
  • Administer medications and blood products safely while following isolation, anticoagulation, and facility protocols
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation, radiology, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
  • Document assessments, interventions, outcomes, and care plans accurately in Epic
  • Float flexibly and support nursing care teams while maintaining safe, evidence-based patient care
