Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,950–$2,060
- Location: Dayton, Ohio
- Assignment Length: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Start Date: October 19, 2026
- Schedule: 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
- Typical Patient Ratio: 1:5–6
- Unit Focus: Advanced cardiac stepdown, progressive care, and telemetry nursing
- Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and holiday availability required
Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements
- At least 1.5 years of recent registered nursing experience; 2 years preferred
- Recent cardiac stepdown, progressive care unit (PCU), or telemetry nursing experience with demonstrated 1:5 patient ratio experience
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license; an active state license or compact license is accepted
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
- Current Epic inpatient electronic health record charting experience required
- Strong ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias
- Experience starting and maintaining peripheral IV access
- Competency with cardiac and insulin infusions, including heparin, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, diltiazem, insulin, and other titratable medications
- Ability to complete an online EKG and telemetry competency assessment before the assignment begins
- Travel nursing experience preferred
- Willingness to float to medically appropriate assignments based on unit needs and patient census
Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with heart failure, chest pain, NSTEMI, post-procedure and post-cardiac surgery needs, COPD exacerbation, atrial fibrillation, dysrhythmias, sepsis, and other complex conditions
- Monitor telemetry and accurately identify changes in cardiac rhythm
- Administer, manage, and titrate cardiac, anticoagulant, and insulin infusions according to clinical protocols
- Perform focused assessments, develop individualized care plans, and evaluate patient responses to treatment
- Care for patients before and after cardiac catheterization, angiography, and other cardiac procedures
- Start and maintain peripheral IV access and manage chest tubes, feeding tubes, high-flow oxygen, and related equipment as appropriate
- Collaborate with physicians, rapid response teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, rehabilitation, and other interdisciplinary partners
- Recognize changes in patient condition and respond promptly to emergencies or rapid response events
- Maintain accurate documentation in Epic while supporting safe transitions of care
- Float within the assigned care network, including appropriate support of patients in other units when needed
