Cardiac Cath Lab RN
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse (RN) to join the team at OSF HealthCare. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of recent Cath Lab RN experience, including strong STEMI experience, and be comfortable supporting a variety of cardiac, neuro, electrophysiology, and interventional radiology procedures.
The RN will provide comprehensive patient care throughout pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure phases while working collaboratively with physicians, Cath Lab Technologists, and the multidisciplinary care team.

- Cath Lab Technologists: Yes — Cath Lab Techs scrub and monitor cases
- Manager/Charge Nurse: Yes, on each shift
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac, neuro, electrophysiology, and interventional radiology procedures.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures.
- Assist with emergent STEMI cases and other time-sensitive interventions.
- Support procedural teams during diagnostic and interventional cases.
- Administer medications, monitor hemodynamic status, and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
- Provide pre- and post-procedure recovery care.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, Cath Lab Technologists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Epic.
- Follow all hospital, department, and patient-safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in rotating weekday, weekend, and holiday call coverage as required.
Common Procedures & Patient Population
The Cardiac Cath Lab supports a broad range of procedures and patient diagnoses, including:
- STEMI and acute coronary syndromes
- Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
- Diagnostic coronary angiography
- Structural heart procedures
- Electrophysiology studies and ablations
- Cardiac device implants
- Synchronized cardioversions
- Transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE)
- Acute stroke and thrombectomy procedures
- Peripheral vascular interventions
- Biopsies
- Drain placements
- Pre- and post-procedural recovery
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 2 years of recent Cath Lab RN experience
- STEMI experience is required
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- NIHSS certification
- Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, and emergency-response skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced procedural environment
Preferred Experience
- Interventional Radiology (IR) experience
- Neuro Interventional Radiology (Neuro IR) experience
Schedule & Call Requirements
- Schedule: Monday–Friday
- Shift: 9-hour shifts
- One rotating weekday off each week
- Rotating weekday, weekend, and holiday call coverage
Call coverage includes:
- All hours outside of Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:30 PM
- 24-hour call shifts on Saturdays
- 24-hour call shifts on Sundays
- Rotating weekday call based on department staffing needs
- Rotating weekend call based on department staffing needs
- Holiday call is required if a holiday falls during the contract period
Floating Requirements
Floating may be required within the Cath Lab department only, including:
- Coronary
- Neuro IR
- Electrophysiology
- Interventional Radiology
- Prep & Recovery
Orientation
Orientation is individualized based on the clinician's previous experience and typically includes 1–2 days in each procedural area.
Important: There are 12 non-billable orientation hours. Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.
OSF-Specific Information
- Local Rate: Clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles are subject to a $25 reduction from the regular and overtime bill rates.
- Call-Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks, with no penalty and no requirement to pay for the missed shift.
- Dress Code: Hospital-provided surgical scrubs.
- Drug-Free Campus: OSF is a Drug-Free Campus. Candidates must understand and agree to produce a negative drug screen for all required panels.

- Active Illinois (IL) RN license or confirmation that the license application process has been initiated
- Confirmation that the candidate understands OSF is a Drug-Free Campus and must successfully complete a negative drug screen for all required panels
