Acute Care RN – Admissions Pending Unit


Position: Registered Nurse – Acute Care
Unit: Admissions Pending Unit (APU)
Location: Topeka, Kansas
Facility: Award-Winning Level II Trauma Center
Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Hours: 36 hours/week
Start Date:10/05/2026 or 10/12/2026 – Firm
Floating: May be required to float to other units
EMR: Epic
OT: Billable after 48 hours
 

Job Description

Seeking an experienced Acute Care RN for a new Admissions Pending Unit (APU). The unit is designed to support rapid patient throughput, with an ideal length of stay of 4 hours or less.

The RN will work in a fast-paced, short-term acute care environment managing a wide variety of patient diagnoses. Strong clinical judgment, time management, adaptability, and the ability to work independently are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate admission orders
  • Complete the admission navigator
  • Perform and document initial admission assessments
  • Monitor and manage patients during the admission process
  • Manage cardiac and anticoagulant drips, including Cardizem and Heparin
  • Support rapid patient progression and throughput
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team
  • Float to other units as needed

Ideal Candidate

  • Self-starter who can work independently with minimal oversight
  • Comfortable in a high-volume, fast-paced acute care setting
  • Strong clinical judgment and time-management skills
  • Able to adapt quickly to changing patient needs
  • Experience with cardiac and anticoagulant drips preferred/expected

Required

  • BLS – AHA
  • ACLS – AHA
  • Kansas RN license or Multistate/Compact RN license
  • No license hits — no exceptions
  • All required licenses and certifications must be active at submission
  • No pending licenses or certifications
  • No first-time travelers
