Description

American Traveler is hiring a NICU RN with NICU II/III experience for a night shift position requiring EPIC EMR proficiency and SC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • NICU setting caring for neonates 22 weeks gestation and greater
  • Patient diagnoses include abdominal wall defects, HIE, RDS/RFS, drug exposure/withdrawal, hypoglycemia, sepsis, TEF, duodenal atresia, diaphragmatic hernia, urethral stenosis, myelomeningocele, and ROP
  • Special procedures performed include full body cooling, chest tubes, surgical repair of anomalies (excluding cardiac), tracheostomy management, and Avastin administration with laser eye surgery
  • Uses specialized equipment including Artic Sun, Blanketroll, Jet Ventilator, HFOV, Draeger Ventilator, HFNC, Bubble CPAP, Alaris, Philips central monitors, B Braun and Infinity feeding pumps, Atom Dual and GE Dual Incubators, Dreager Caleos, and radiant warmers
  • Uses Pyxis/Omnicell for medication management
  • Documents in EPIC EMR
  • Night shift options available: 4x12 hours (1900-0730) with no call, or 3x12 hours with call (at least one 12-hour call shift bi-weekly)
  • Weekend coverage required every other weekend unless needs change
  • Floating to other NICU units or facilities required as needed

Requirements

  • Active RN license (SC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required
  • NICU II and III experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of EPIC EMR experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Skilled in IV therapy, blood and blood product administration, arterial line management, central line care and blood draws, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Experience with UAC and UVC required
  • Proficient in neonatal dosage calculations and administration of anti-seizure medications, antibiotics/antivirals, steroids, and surfactants
  • Experience with IV vasopressors and conscious sedation preferred
  • Skilled in APGAR scoring, developmental care, patient/family teaching, phlebotomy, and thermoregulation
  • Experience with therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blanket) and VP shunts
  • Knowledge of neonatal abstinence syndrome and seizure disorder management
  • Experience with blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, phototherapy, and hyperbilirubinemia management
  • Skilled in breastfeeding support, colostomy/ileostomy care, gavage/bottle/breast feedings, and management of gastroschisis/omphalocele, NEC, and post abdominal surgery care
  • Respiratory skills required including Bubble CPAP, HFNC, high frequency ventilation, chest tube management, nitric oxide therapy, oscillators, oxygen delivery systems, suctioning, tracheostomy care, Vapotherm, and ventilator management
  • Experience with invasive hemodynamic monitoring and unit telemetry
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions/PPE, neonatal sepsis, and sepsis workup
  • Jet ventilation experience required

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care to a critically ill neonatal population
  • Care for neonates ranging from under 24-28 weeks to over 34 weeks gestation
  • Complete annual compliance orientation held every Monday
  • Complete pre-assignment testing and required modules within 48 hours of receiving login credentials
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from any Prisma facility to be eligible for full travel pay rate; candidates 90-99.9 miles away are accepted at a reduced bill rate
