Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a NICU position requiring an active CA license and 2 years of Level 4 (or strong Level 3 surgical) neonatal ICU experience.

Details

  • Level 4 NICU setting within a Level 1 trauma, Magnet-recognized children's hospital
  • Variable day/night or straight night 3x12 shifts (7:00-19:00 or 19:00-7:00)
  • Must be available to work weekends with full scheduling flexibility
  • No on-call requirements
  • Required to float within scope of practice to PICU and CTICU
  • Required to float to NICU satellite campuses including Rancho Springs, Palomar, Scripps Encinitas, Scripps La Jolla, and Scripps Mercy
  • Mileage reimbursed when floating to locations other than home base facility
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • 60 total staffed beds

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required in hand (pending license with confirmed posting ETA may be considered)
  • Current BLS certification required; Advanced NRP required; PALS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Level 4 NICU experience required
  • Will consider strong Level 3 NICU candidates with surgical experience from a facility performing newborn surgeries
  • Cardiac experience required
  • Experience with oscillator, conventional ventilator, CPAP, and nasal cannula specialty gases required
  • Experience with PICC lines, Broviacs, UAC/UVC/PAL lines, trachs, ostomies, and G-tubes required
  • Comfortable performing line changes with multiple drips and pre/post-op care required
  • Must have own transportation for floating to satellite campuses
  • SSN and accurate DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide neonatal ICU nursing care including high-risk delivery attendance, IV therapy, central line care, and ventilator management
  • Care for patients requiring post-abdominal surgery, gastroschisis/omphalocele management, and IV vasopressor administration
  • Must work 2 of the following 3 holidays (including Eves): Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, with no holiday RTO allowed
  • Maximum RTO of 6 days permitted, must be confirmed upfront
  • Any color scrubs accepted
  • Free traveler parking available
  • First-time travelers considered if they have strong Level 4 NICU experience
  • Local candidates (within 50 miles) not accepted
  • Former permanent staff must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible to travel
  • Travelers who complete a full year at Rady or CHOC must wait 90 days before returning as a travel clinician
  • Candidates who are do-not-return (DNR) status with Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) will not be considered for this position
