NICU Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,160–$2,270
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Nursing
- Healthcare Setting: Level III NICU caring for neonates from approximately 22 weeks gestation and above
- Start Date: November 30, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks, ending March 1, 2027
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
- Patient Population: Neonates requiring complex respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, infectious disease, surgical, and cardiac care
- Average Daily Census: Approximately 30 patients
- Patient Ratio Experience: 2–3 patients
- Additional Scheduling Information: May be required to float to other units within the health system as needed
NICU Travel RN Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license in Ohio or a valid compact RN license in hand at the time of submission
- At least 1 year of professional nursing experience, including experience in a Level III or Level IV NICU
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Graduate of an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Experience caring for neonates born at less than 24–28 weeks gestation
- Competency with ventilator management, including AC/PC, SIMV, CPAP, BiPAP, and PEEP
- Proficiency in arterial line management, central line care, umbilical artery catheter (UAC) and umbilical vein catheter (UVC) management, and IV therapy
- Ability to interpret and manage cardiovascular dysrhythmias
- Experience with neonatal feedings and oral, nasogastric, and nasojejunal tube placement or management
- Proficiency with electronic documentation, preferably Epic
- Two professional references, including at least one reference from a manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
- Ability to complete required credentialing and Ohio fingerprinting promptly following acceptance
NICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive, individualized nursing care to critically ill and premature neonates in a Level III NICU
- Manage patients experiencing respiratory distress, glucose management issues, infection-related concerns, and complex cardiovascular or gastrointestinal conditions
- Care for neonates requiring surgical or cardiac interventions and coordinate transfers when appropriate
- Administer medications safely, including IV vasopressors, surfactants, and steroids, using established medication safety procedures
- Monitor and adjust ventilator settings in collaboration with providers and respiratory therapy
- Perform and manage arterial lines, central lines, UACs, UVCs, and other specialized neonatal procedures within scope of practice
- Support neonatal abstinence syndrome interventions and follow appropriate monitoring and treatment protocols
- Provide and evaluate oral, breast, gavage, nasogastric, and nasojejunal feedings
- Apply infection prevention, isolation, and personal protective equipment procedures consistently
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in Epic
- Use SBAR communication to promote clear collaboration with providers, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
- Collaborate with advanced practice providers, pharmacy, respiratory services, radiology, physical therapy, social services, interpretation services, and unit support staff
