Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,090
- Location: Lubbock, Texas
- Healthcare Setting: On-site, high-acuity NICU within a children's hospital environment
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- Assignment End Date: February 1, 2027
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks, with potential for extension
- Nursing Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling with block scheduling expectations
- Weekend Requirement: Six weekend shifts during a six-week scheduling period; coverage may vary
- Patient Population: Neonates, including premature infants and newborns requiring complex medical and surgical care
- Unit Profile: 43-bed NICU with an average daily census of approximately 35 patients
- Typical Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:2–4
- Float Expectations: As needed to pediatric, PICU, or pediatric emergency department units
- Electronic Health Record: Epic
NICU Travel Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent NICU Registered Nurse experience
- Level III NICU experience strongly preferred; experience in a Level IV environment is highly valued
- Current Registered Nurse license in the applicable state; compact license must be active and in hand when required
- Current BLS certification
- Current NRP certification
- Recent experience caring for neonates, including premature infants and patients with respiratory distress, sepsis, hypoglycemia, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and postoperative needs
- Proficiency with electronic health record documentation, preferably Epic
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and required holiday shifts as scheduled
- Strong neonatal assessment, prioritization, communication, and family education skills
NICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to neonates in a high-acuity NICU setting
- Monitor and manage patients receiving mechanical ventilation, CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, oscillation, nitric oxide, and other advanced respiratory support
- Administer medications, blood products, antibiotics, vasopressors, insulin, surfactants, and other neonatal therapies safely and accurately
- Manage central lines, umbilical arterial and venous catheters, arterial lines, chest tubes, IV access, feeding tubes, and other neonatal equipment
- Support the care of infants with prematurity, respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, necrotizing enterocolitis, neonatal abstinence syndrome, hypoglycemia, hyperbilirubinemia, seizures, and surgical conditions
- Perform ongoing assessments, neonatal dosage calculations, glucose monitoring, thermoregulation, phototherapy, and developmental care
- Assist with feeding, breast milk handling, breastfeeding support, patient and family teaching, and discharge preparation
- Recognize changes in patient condition and respond promptly to clinical deterioration or emergencies
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary support services
- Maintain accurate Epic documentation while following infection prevention, isolation, and patient safety standards
- Float to designated pediatric service areas when needed and contribute to a flexible, team-oriented healthcare environment
