NICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Lubbock, Texas

NICU Travel Nurse Job Details
- Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse
- Location: Lubbock, Texas
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract

- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,090
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling with block scheduling available
- Weekend Requirement: Six weekend shifts during each six-week scheduling period
- Patient Population: Neonates, including premature infants and patients with complex medical and surgical needs
- Typical Ratios: 1:2–4
- Floating: As needed to pediatric, PICU, or pediatric emergency department units
NICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent NICU nursing experience
- Level III NICU experience strongly preferred; experience caring for Level IV acuity patients is a plus
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the assignment state; compact license must be active and in hand when applicable
- Current BLS and NRP certifications
- Recent experience with Epic or another electronic health record system
- Strong neonatal assessment, critical-thinking, and family-education skills
- Ability to care for patients with a wide range of acuity, including prematurity, respiratory distress, hypoglycemia, sepsis, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and postoperative conditions
- Commitment to working assigned weekend shifts and participating in unit-based floating as needed
Travel NICU Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive bedside nursing care for neonates in a high-acuity Level III/IV NICU
- Monitor and manage patients requiring ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, oscillators, nitric oxide, and other advanced respiratory therapies
- Administer medications, blood products, antibiotics, vasopressors, insulin, steroids, surfactants, and neonatal therapies safely and accurately
- Manage central lines, umbilical arterial and venous catheters, arterial lines, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and other specialized neonatal equipment
- Support neonates receiving therapeutic hypothermia and care for patients with sepsis, necrotizing enterocolitis, hyperbilirubinemia, seizures, and respiratory distress syndrome
- Perform neonatal assessments, glucose monitoring, developmental care, thermoregulation, phototherapy, and feeding support
- Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapists, specialists, and families to develop and evaluate individualized plans of care
- Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care plans accurately in the electronic health record
- Float to designated pediatric units when needed while maintaining safe, compassionate patient care
