NICU Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Travel Nursing Assignment in Lubbock, Texas

NICU Travel Nurse Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980-$2,090
  • Location: Lubbock, Texas
  • Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing assignment
  • Start Date: November 2, 2026
  • End Date: February 1, 2027
  • Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week
  • Shift: 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Unit: High-acuity NICU with approximately 43 beds and a daily census of about 35 neonates
  • Typical Ratios: Approximately 1:2-4
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling with block scheduling expectations
  • Weekend Coverage: Six weekend shifts during each six-week scheduling period; coverage may vary based on self-scheduling
  • Float Expectations: May float to pediatric, PICU, or pediatric emergency department units as needed
  • Call: Not required
  • Holiday Availability: Commitment to work three of five designated holidays may be required

NICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • At least 2 years of recent NICU RN experience
  • Level III NICU experience strongly preferred; experience caring for patients in a Level IV environment is advantageous
  • Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Texas; compact license must be in hand at submission when applicable
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Recent experience caring for premature and critically ill neonates, including patients with respiratory distress, hypoglycemia, sepsis, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and surgical conditions
  • Experience with Epic electronic documentation
  • Strong neonatal assessment, medication administration, respiratory support, and family education skills
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and assigned holidays as scheduled
  • Two professional references covering at least one year of experience within the last three years

NICU RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to premature, critically ill, and medically complex neonates
  • Monitor respiratory status and manage ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, oscillators, nitric oxide, and other neonatal respiratory support therapies
  • Administer medications, IV vasopressors, antibiotics, surfactants, blood products, insulin, and other therapies according to clinical orders and neonatal protocols
  • Manage and assess umbilical arterial and venous catheters, central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and other specialized neonatal equipment
  • Support care for neonates experiencing sepsis, NEC, hyperbilirubinemia, seizures, neonatal abstinence syndrome, respiratory distress, and post-abdominal surgery recovery
  • Perform neonatal assessments, APGAR scoring, glucose monitoring, thermoregulation, phototherapy, and therapeutic hypothermia monitoring
  • Assist with procedures and diagnostic workups, including blood draws, lumbar puncture support, and sepsis evaluations
  • Promote developmental care, safe feeding practices, breastfeeding support, and appropriate handling of breast milk
  • Educate and support patients' families while maintaining clear, compassionate communication
  • Document patient care accurately in Epic and collaborate with providers, respiratory therapists, specialists, and interdisciplinary support services
  • Float to designated pediatric areas when needed while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care
