Travel NICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Level III/IV Neonatal Intensive Care in Seattle, WA

NICU Registered Nurse travel contract in Seattle, Washington, caring for critically ill newborns in a high-acuity Level III/IV neonatal intensive care unit.   • Schedule: Day shifts, typically 3 shifts per week
  • Shift Duration: 12-hour shifts, approximately 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Unit: Level III/IV NICU with approximately 77 beds and an average daily census of 50
  • Patient Population: Critically ill neonates and infants
  • Typical Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Scheduling: Block scheduling may be available; intermittent weekend coverage is required

NICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Washington; compact license must be active and in hand when applicable
  • At least 3 years of NICU nursing experience, including Level III NICU experience; candidates with Level IV experience should have at least 2 years in that setting
  • Experience caring for neonates as young as 23–24 weeks gestation
  • Current BLS and NRP certifications
  • Strong clinical proficiency with ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP, high-frequency ventilation, and oscillators
  • Experience with blood and blood product administration, PICC and central lines, feeding tubes, syringe pumps, and therapeutic hypothermia
  • Epic electronic health record (EHR) charting experience preferred
  • Ability to float to nearby campuses or pediatric and newborn settings as needed while caring for newborns and infants
  • At least 1 year of professional nursing experience is required

NICU Travel Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill neonates and infants in a high-acuity neonatal intensive care unit
  • Monitor and manage patients receiving mechanical ventilation, CPAP/BiPAP, high-frequency ventilation, and oscillator therapy
  • Administer blood and blood products and manage PICC lines, central lines, feeding tubes, and syringe pumps
  • Provide therapeutic hypothermia and warming blanket care according to clinical protocols
  • Assist with cardioversion, defibrillation, high-risk deliveries, and neonatal surgeries
  • Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, physical therapy, and rapid response teams
  • Deliver family-centered education and support while maintaining accurate clinical documentation
  • Work collaboratively with the dedicated admission nurse; NICU travel nurses are generally not responsible for admitting newborns
  • Adapt to occasional floating assignments, including newborn, pediatric, or nearby NICU settings, based on unit needs
