- Unit Profile: 22-bed neuro-medical-surgical unit with typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 5:1 to 6:1
- Electronic Health Record: EPIC
- Clinical Technology: Cardiac monitoring, GE EKG equipment, and Mindray vital-sign machines
Travel Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Pennsylvania
- At least 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience; neuro nursing experience is highly preferred
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Swallow screening experience or certification preferred
- Demonstrated competency in dysrhythmia recognition and medication dosage calculations
- Successful completion of required pre-employment screenings and clearances
- Ability to complete unit orientation, including dysrhythmia and dosage-calculation assessments
- Flexibility to work holidays as scheduled
Neuro Med/Surg Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with neurological, medical, and medical-surgical conditions
- Assess, monitor, and document patient status using evidence-based nursing practices
- Care for patients experiencing CVA, TIA, seizures, impaired mobility, respiratory conditions, urinary conditions, and other medical-surgical diagnoses
- Perform neurological assessments and support individualized stroke-related care plans
- Recognize and respond appropriately to dysrhythmias and changes in patient condition
- Complete swallow screening processes as appropriate to patient needs and unit protocols
- Administer medications safely and accurately, including medication dosage calculations
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, support staff, patients, and families to coordinate individualized patient care
- Float when needed, recognizing that floating is uncommon for this assignment
