Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro Medical-Surgical Travel Contract in Johnstown, PA

Join an experienced adult care team as a Med/Surg Registered Nurse on a 13-week travel nursing contract in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020–$2,130
• Location: Johnstown, Pennsylvania
• Healthcare Setting: 22-bed adult neuro medical-surgical unit within a Level I trauma environment
• Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Start Date: October 12, 2026
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks, ending January 11, 2027
• Weekend Requirement: Two of four weekends per schedule, or four of eight weekend shifts; straight-weekend scheduling may be available
• Call: None required
• Patient Ratios: Approximately 5:1 to 6:1
• Electronic Medical Record and Equipment: Epic, cardiac monitors, GE EKG equipment, and Mindray vital-sign machines

Med/Surg Travel Nurse Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Pennsylvania
• At least 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience; neuro nursing experience is strongly preferred
• NIH Stroke Scale certification or demonstrated NIH competency required
• Swallow-screen experience or competency preferred
• Demonstrated competency in dysrhythmia recognition and management
• Ability to successfully complete dysrhythmia and medication-math assessments during orientation
• Comfort caring for adult patients with neurological, medical, and cardiac-related needs
• Ability to float when needed, although floating is expected to be infrequent
• Availability for holidays as determined during the screening process
• Completion of all required pre-employment screenings and Pennsylvania clearances before the start date

Neuro Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult patients in a neuro medical-surgical setting
• Assess, monitor, and document patients experiencing CVA, TIA, seizures, impaired mobility, respiratory conditions, urinary conditions, and other acute medical diagnoses
• Recognize and respond to changes in neurological, cardiac, respiratory, and overall patient status
• Perform focused neurological assessments and communicate significant findings promptly
• Interpret cardiac rhythms and escalate dysrhythmias according to clinical protocols
• Administer medications and treatments safely while maintaining accurate documentation in Epic
• Support dysphagia screening, fall prevention, mobility assistance, and other patient-safety initiatives
• Collaborate with physicians, rehabilitation professionals, ancillary departments, patients, and families to coordinate care
• Prioritize care for an assignment of approximately five to six patients while maintaining quality and efficiency
• Participate in orientation, competency validation, and ongoing professional development
