Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a fast-paced Med/Surg Tele unit requiring orthopedic experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Med/Surg Tele unit caring for orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients
  • 39-bed unit with average daily census of 37
  • Patient ratios of 5-6:1, flexing up to 7:1 in extreme cases
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts (3x12), 18:45-07:15
  • 36 or 48 hours per week available
  • Every other weekend required, with make-up time required for weekend call-outs
  • Float requirement to other med-surg units within the facility based on census
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of inpatient acute care experience, including at least 1 year of orthopedic experience
  • Required certifications: BLS, NIHSS
  • Preferred certifications: ACLS
  • Preferred: Charge nurse experience, Level I Trauma experience
  • Skills required: IV starts, telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with ortho trauma, hip and trauma hip patients, and pain management for ortho/spine patients
  • Experience with peripheral nerve block catheters and total joint replacement preferred
  • Experience with pre/post neurosurgery and spinal cord injury patients preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide nursing care to orthopedic, neuro spine, and post-surgical patients in a fast-paced environment
  • Must stay on top of pain management protocols for ortho and spine patients
  • First-time travelers considered only if they have Epic experience
  • Previous Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying, with disclosure of hospital name and dates of employment required
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
  • No RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • No holiday RTO approved
  • Travel pairs allowed if on different units and disclosed, with separate transportation
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Weekly orientation provided
