CVICU Travel Nurse Requirements

  • Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license or confirmation that the licensure process has been initiated
  • At least 2 years of recent, hands-on CVICU experience; additional travel ICU experience is strongly preferred
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • CCRN certification is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to care for high-acuity cardiovascular and critically ill patients with minimal ramp-up time
  • Strong cardiac rhythm interpretation, assessment, critical thinking, communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to titrate vasoactive, sedative, analgesic, anticoagulant, and other critical care infusions according to orders and protocols
  • Ability to float to other levels of care and accept a full patient assignment when needed
  • Commitment to working effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment

CVICU Travel Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients following CABG, valve procedures, dissections, AAA and vascular procedures, carotid procedures, TAVRs, and other cardiovascular interventions
  • Care for patients experiencing STEMI, unstable angina, NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, and other critical cardiac conditions
  • Manage ventilated patients and patients requiring CPAP, BiPAP, heated high-flow oxygen, or nitric oxide therapy
  • Monitor and manage patients receiving IABP, Impella, Swan-Ganz, ECMO, CRRT, external pacing, transcutaneous pacing, or transvenous pacing support
  • Care for patients with PICCs, midlines, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, and radial or femoral arterial lines
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and continuously monitor patients using bedside and centralized monitoring systems
  • Safely titrate medications such as dopamine, dobutamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine, phenylephrine, vasopressin, clevidipine, propofol, fentanyl, midazolam, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
  • Perform ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition, and promptly communicate clinical concerns
  • Collaborate with advanced practice providers, physicians, respiratory therapists, patient care technicians, and the interdisciplinary care team
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, compassion, time management, accountability, and adherence to clinical protocols
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record while delivering safe, organized, and patient-centered care
