Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,560-$2,700
  • Schedule: 36 hours per week
  • Shift: 12-hour nights, typically 7:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend; night-shift weekends are Friday and Saturday
  • Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
  • Call Requirement: None
  • Unit: 20-bed, private-room CVICU
  • Patient Ratios: Generally 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1 based on patient acuity
  • Charting: Epic
  • Orientation: Unit-specific orientation and precepted training

CVICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
  • At least 2 years of recent CVICU or cardiovascular critical care experience
  • Strong experience caring for high-acuity cardiovascular and critically ill patients
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • CCRN certification is a plus
  • Proficiency interpreting cardiac rhythms and managing titratable vasoactive, sedative, analgesic, anticoagulant, and antiarrhythmic infusions
  • Experience with arterial lines, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, temporary pacemakers, and advanced cardiac support equipment
  • Ability to float to other levels of care and accept a full patient assignment as needed
  • Excellent assessment, critical-thinking, communication, organization, teamwork, and time-management skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while following protocols and provider orders

CVICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to post-cardiac surgery and critically ill cardiovascular patients
  • Care for patients with CABG, valve procedures, dissections, aneurysms, vascular procedures, carotid procedures, STEMI, NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, TAVR, and other complex cardiac conditions
  • Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, CPAP, BiPAP, heated high-flow oxygen, and nitric oxide therapy
  • Monitor and manage patients receiving IABP, Impella, Swan-Ganz, ECMO, CRRT, external pacing, and other advanced interventions
  • Assess and manage arterial lines, PICC lines, midlines, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, and temporary transvenous or transcutaneous pacemakers
  • Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize changes in patient condition
  • Titrate medications such as vasopressors, inotropes, sedatives, analgesics, insulin, heparin, and antiarrhythmics according to protocol and provider orders
  • Perform detailed assessments, develop individualized care plans, administer medications, and evaluate patient responses to treatment
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, patient care technicians, and other members of the critical care team
  • Provide timely communication, thorough documentation, patient and family education, and compassionate support throughout the critical care experience
  • Maintain patient safety, infection-prevention practices, and compliance with unit protocols
